The Nineteen Sixties

1961

Bill Stacy, former Honor Camper, takes over as Managing Camp Director for Rio Vista.

1964

George Thruston Broun passes away. Mr. Broun dedicated his life to providing a wholesome camp environment and raising men with impeccable character.

1966

The Scorpion Den cabin burns down during Sunday lunch. Carl Hawkins and his family join the Rio Vista staff. Mr. Hawkins comes in as the Assistant Director of Camping.

1967

The Hawkins Family purchase Heart of The Hills Camp for girls just eight miles up the road. Billy Carter and Steve Sherman start the Rio Vista Rebels.

1968

The Stacy family purchase camp from Mrs. Broun.
