We’ve been making steady progress as we work to get camp cleaned up and ready for the summer of 2026! While the drive across the LWC looks completely different these days, we’re excited to share that we’re about to start rebuilding the stone pillars by the call box at the front gate.
All of the fencing from the LWC to the front gate has been replaced with a sleek new cable fence. Gone are the old white fences that used to line half that stretch — this change really opens up the view as you drive into camp!
To your left as you approach the front gate, you might remember the two small pumphouses that once stood there. Both were completely destroyed in the flood, but they’ve now been replaced with a single pumphouse that covers both water wells in that area. The rock walls are now finished, and we even included an awesome arrowhead detail in the wall facing the river. This project is about 99% complete!
The Canoe Shed. The building itself has been completely rebuilt, and now we’re working to add the rockwork. Much of the stone from the original structure was salvageable, so you may recognize some familiar rocks in the new walls. Inside, we expanded the canoe/kayak closet (no pictures yet — our rock masons were hard at work in front of that door). On the golf/fishing side, the building is a couple of feet shorter than before, but it still offers plenty of space for everything we need. You might even spot some of the golf clubs that were donated or saved after the flood!
We’ve installed brand-new windows in the office! They look completely different from the old ones, but they’re beautiful, functional, and much better insulated — perfect for letting in fresh Hill Country air and keeping the office comfortable year-round.
Over by the store area, the bathroom doors are back on, and the store itself is getting a bit of a refresh. It was full of carpenters today, so no sneak peeks yet — but we can’t wait to show you soon! The back storage closets also have brand-new doors installed.
The ball closet on the river side had to be completely rebuilt after the flood left a large hole in the wall. The new structure looks amazing with its board-and-batten siding in that classic Rio Vista red. The old swim closet has also been rebuilt, complete with shelving — the perfect spot for all of our waterfront gear.
Inside the gym, the old softball closet has a whole new look. Instead of jutting out into the middle of the room, it’s now tucked neatly under the stairs along the wall. This redesign opens up the room and will allow us to use the space for a class — maybe martial arts or wrestling!
The downstairs storage room has also undergone a major transformation. What used to be several small, sectioned-off spaces is now one big open room with built-in cabinets. If you’ve seen this room before, you’ll be amazed at how spacious it feels now — it’ll be perfect for storing all kinds of camp gear.
There’s still a lot of work ahead, but we’re so proud of how far things have come and the direction we’re headed. None of this progress would be possible without our incredible Vista Camps family, and all of those Vista families & alumni involved in the Vista Forever Foundation — thank you for all your support, encouragement, and love along the way.
